Director Mike Judge, along with many of the cast members, descended on Austin this weekend for the 10th Anniversary showing of their cult-classic late nineties workplace comedy, “Office Space” Austin’s own historic Paramount Theater played host to the movie mogul and his cast members including just about everyone except Ron Livingston and Jennifer Aniston. Fans lined up well in advance of the 8:00 p.m. curtain time, and the excitement was palpable.

For many, “Office Space” has become a classic the highly quotable script and oddball characters earned roars of laughter throughout the showing, as whole lines of the film were drowned out by the laughter and enthusiasm of the hundreds of fans in attendance.

John C. McGinley, perhaps best known for his long-running role as Dr. Cox on “Scrubs” was one of the many cast members in attendance. McGinley expressed amazement and appreciation for the warm reception of fans, admitting he hadn’t seen the film in its entirety since the original screening he attended back when it debuted in 1999. Director Mike Judge quipped that the screaming masses in the Paramount Theater on Sunday night rivaled the film’s entire opening weekend attendance.

For a film that was all but a box office failure, “Office Space” has garnered a devoted cult following in the decade since its release. A champion of the disenfranchised, disinterested world of young professionals, the relevance and occupational indifference at the heart of the film ring truer today than even a decade ago. One moviegoer asked Mike Judge, during the question and answer portion of the event, following the film, “What is your message for the young people just entering the job market?” Muffled laughter followed, as did a shouted response from somewhere in the audience: “Don’t do it!”

Judge himself admitted he began his professional career in an environment similar to the one he created so humorously in the film’s fictional software company, Initech. With a degree in physics, Judge found himself in a professional role most closely mirrored by that of the film’s mumbling hero, Milton Waddams (interestingly enough, this character was also the focus of his first animated short). When asked how he transitioned from physics to the film industry, Judge shrugged and responded that he did some animations and sent them out, and the rest was history.

Coordinated in conjunction with Austin’s own Fantastic Fest, the event was a huge success. While tickets were first made available only to Fantastic Fest and SXSW ticket holders, ticket sales were subsequently opened to the public, and sold out faster than you could say Swingline. Special VIP tickets were also available, which included entrance to an after party featuring movie themed appetizers like pizza shooters, shrimp poppers and extreme fajitas, complimentary pieces of flare, and even a red Swingline stapler an extra special addition, as the now-infamous red staplers were manufactured exclusively for the film, and never sold commercially. With SXSW fast approaching, more not-to-be-missed events are in the works at the Paramount and throughout Austin.

After the disappointment of Bryan Singer’s 2004 “Superman Returns,” the triumphant return of the iconic comic book superhero, Superman, has been greatly anticipated. Marketing materials, behind-the-scenes interviews, and trailers released in the weeks before the film’s general release on June 14, 2013, promise a Superman unlike any that previously has been brought to film. This is not the Clark Kent of “Smallville” or the mild-mannered reporter made famous by Christopher Reeve. This is a hero tailored for a new generation, but also true to the very core that has made the character an enduring icon for 75 years. Warner Bros. is keen to celebrate this milestone with a successful launch of “Man of Steel.”

Warner Bros. seems to have placed its hope for a franchise reboot in good hands with the team of Zack Snyder (“Watchmen” and “300”) as director, Christopher Nolan (“The Dark Knight” and “Inception”) as writer and co-producer, and David S. Goyer (“Batman Begins” and “Da Vinci’s Demons”) as the main writer. The goal seems to be about presenting a more relatable Superman, one that could exist in today’s world. This has been a sound tactic for superhero movies over the past decade; it was used in films such as “Spiderman” and the X-Men movie franchise.

Viewers of the film trailers most likely have made note of a marked costume change for the big blue wonder. All aspects of the character were scrutinized, and the team decided that his red “underwear” had to go. The spandex of the past is now gone, and a new fashion iconography will take its place. The “S” that is emblazoned on Superman’s chest also is given its own origin story, one that is out of this world. “It’s not an S,” the hero explains; it is a glyph, the symbol of Kal-El’s family, much like the heraldry crests or sigils of ancient times. This idea sure beats explaining why an alien has a letter of the English alphabet stitched onto his chest.

The mythology of Superman explores a concept that has been used in countless movies and television shows: the tug felt from existing in two worlds. In “Star Trek,” for example, Spock had difficulty in balancing both his Vulcan and human sides. Peter Bishop from “Fringe” always felt that he did not belong in his world, and it was revealed that he actually was a stolen doppelganger son from a parallel world. Of course, ancient mythology is also filled with tales following a similar theme, but Superman is probably the best modern example. At first Clark Kent does not know he is also Kal-El from the planet Krypton. He is raised on Earth by Jonathan (Kevin Costner) and Martha Kent (Diane Lane) as their child. For all intents and purposes, they are his parents, as they instill good values and character in the adopted boy. But secrets have a way of coming out, and, eventually, Superman is given the choice between saving humanity and Earth from annihilation and spawning new hope for his Kryptonian heritage.

The selection of Henry Cavill for the starring role wasn’t a surprise to anyone except for Cavill; he didn’t even know he was up for the part until he was told he was going to be the next Superman. Cavill may be the center of attention, but other characters appear to hold their own. Amy Adams’ Lois Lane looks to be more resourceful and just plain more interesting than the character has ever been. The villain, a somewhat familiar General Zod (Michael Shannon), is multi-dimensional and shown to be a character bound to his purpose of keeping the memory of Krypton alive.

If the trailers are any indication, Superman’s powers serve two purposes. Of course, they are meant to be used as a means of exploring the inherent heroism found in humans, but the superhuman powers also are used for cinematic effect and truly make for jaw-dropping action sequences. Any fan of the franchise knows the laundry list of the character’s extraordinary powers, such as “faster than a speeding bullet” and “more powerful than a locomotive.” In “Man of Steel,” Superman’s full arsenal is put to use against a well-matched foe. As a complete package, this reimagining of a modern hero is a welcome addition to the decades-old franchise, and this movie is recommended as the must-see film of the summer.

1. Decide on what to write

However, knowing the character well enough would do the best, especially when you perceive them as real and living. Think about what the character would do, where would he or she go, how would they talk, what would they dress up like and more. This allows you to engage in building a character, surreal but real at the same time.

3. Does your script have a status quo?

Without a proper status quo, your movie wouldn’t open. You have to include a breaking ball, which would talk about the characters past, on a small note but yes, you need to have it. There has to be conflicts and inciting incidents which interrupts the viewer, which your hero or heroine would have to deal and batter with. Ensure that you have this included in the screenplay coverage.

4. Climax:

Every story needs to have a climax; this would be the high note for your film. Consider this in your script coverage as a final showdown. This is where the hero finds the booty, it’s either going to be his prized possession or the armed robbers’. The enemy would either kill him or he would outdo them with his wit and smartness, and run off with everything in his hands. It doesn’t happen so in real life, but this is what movies are all about, you sell fantasy through your work.

Remember, when the character has too many roadblocks leading up to the incident, there would have to be decisive battles to be won by him. This is where the climax in the movie comes into play. It is here that the hero makes it or breaks it for the audience. Climaxes always happen at the end, whatever happens before that is a build up to the climax. Once the dust settles from all the happenings, the hero emerges and proves to be a warrior, and that’s how the movie screenplays make it big at the box office. Hence, you have got to sell your fantasy and dreams to the audience in a vivid way.

In the golden age of comic books, fans chose a side and stuck to that side. DC made a name for itself in the world of comic books films by launching the “Superman” franchise. The film grossed more than $ 98 million in its opening weekend, making “Iron Man” a hit among fans. Fans also loved the end credits, which showed Samuel L. Jackson (“Snakes on a Plane”). Jackson portrayed Nick Fury and the scene gave fans hope for a sequel.

“Iron Man” eventually grossed more than $ 500 million around the world, and it was the first film of 2008 to make more than $ 300 million at the box office. Downey credits the film with giving him a second chance at an acting career, and he enjoyed the role so much that he came back for a long cameo role in “The Incredible Hulk.” The release of those two films showed Hollywood that fans loved good comic book films and paved the way for more Marvel films.

Fans who aren’t sure how “Iron Man 3” might fare at the box office should just look at “Iron Man 2” and “The Avengers.” “Iron Man 2” brought back many of the same characters and actors from the first film, including Downey and Gwyneth Paltrow, who played as his love interest Pepper Potts. Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Nick Fury, Black Widow, and Hawkeye all appeared in the film. “The Avengers” grossed more than $ 1.5 billion around the world, making it one of the highest-grossing films of all time.

Marvel did a smart job of connecting its superhero films, and fans flocked to theaters to see their favorite characters and stars. Every film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as fans call it, contains connections to past and future films. “The Avengers” showed a relationship forming between Bruce Banner and Tony Stark, which might carry over into the next film, and the film set things up for both “Iron Man 3” and the upcoming “Thor: The Dark World.” If nothing else, fans will turn out to watch the ending scenes, which will likely show a hint of what happens in the sequel to “Thor” and the 2014 release “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

Fans began eagerly awaiting the release of “Iron Man 3” back in 2012. The production company behind the film sent the newest Iron Man suit to the San Diego Comic-Con, and several of the film’s stars showed up for a Q&A session with fans.
